Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am a recent Ph.D. graduate in chemistry from Yale University. I came to AST to get away after finishing my thesis, and to learn how to surf. I grew up in Seattle, Wa, but moved out east for grad school. I like turtles, bacon, and getting vert 24/8.

Where are you from?

Boston, Massachusetts

What camp(s) did you visit?

El Salvador, Las Flores and La Libertad.

Why did you decide to come to El Salvador?

I wanted to get away from everything for a bit. Just a typical vacation.....but in a country the CIA doesn't want me to visit!

What’s your surfing level?

I was level 0 and after 10 days, I would put myself in as a level 3.5/10 druid.....

What were your expectations before coming here?

I expected that I would be ripping fat waves like Emilio......but surfing is a bit tougher than it looks!

Did you have any concerns before coming?

I was worried I was going to be kidnapped and killed because El Salvador......yeah......but I was very impressed! At both locations, I felt very safe and unconcerned. I had TONS of fun and I will def. be going back

What was your favorite experience/activity here?

I really liked the waterfall tour, and hanging out near Las Flores. Going to the tourist area near punta roca was cool too!

What was your favorite memory here?

Making Emilio dance for losing at Dice!

What advice do you have for future guests?

You will be surrounded with caring and knowledgeable staff at AST. Make the most of their service. Get up, get out and enjoy the water.
