Surf Tour Overview
Conveniently located in Puerto La Libertad, the AST Surf Hotel offers breath-taking views of La Punta or otherwise known as Punta Roca and La Paz the inside section of Punta Roca. Our hotel sits on the inside of the point offering 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean, and if you visit Surfline.com you will find our surf cam on the Punta Roca page of Central America Camera’s.
Our La Libertad Hotel offers accommodations for 20 guests with a roof top Bar and Grill that is unmatched in the entire area of Puerto La Libertad. AST offers private and shared accommodations along with our new dorm room with the biggest most comfortable bunk bed you will ever sleep in. Each room is equipped with Double Beds, Oversize Pillows, Air Conditioning, Tiled Bathrooms with Hot and Cold water, which is very hard to find in all coastal areas of El Salvador.

While staying at the AST Surf Hotel in La Libertad, you will find that you are centrally located in the middle of all the action. We are only 30 minutes from San Salvador airport door-to-door and striking distance to all surf breaks in the Wild West within 40 minutes. Our Surf Tour guests get the red carpet rolled out with private surf guides and exclusive or shared vehicles to access any surf spot we know or you want to surf. There are several surf spots in the La Libertad area listed below, but some we like to keep quiet for our guests.
You will find head-high surf consistent from March to November and waist-to-shoulder high surf in the off season. Although you must keep an eye out for off season swell, the conditions are good to epic with primary offshore winds. La Libertad consists of about a dozen different high quality breaks beginning at the coastal town of La Libertad. It contains the most popular El Salvador surf spot, Punta Roca the only world class wave in Central America.

Punta Roca, El Salvador Surfing:
World Class right hand point, the reason El Salvador is on the map. When searching for a high performance wave, you have found your match with steep drops, long barrels and an average wave length of 100 yards.

- Crowd: Morning= Can be crowded, Mid-Day/Afternoon= Minimal surfers
La Paz, El Salvador Surfing:
One of two house waves for the hotel, this wave is a softer version of Punta Roca that breaks directly in front of the hotel. Best to surf this wave with a long board or fish but can be steep and offer a barrel in the months of Oct – Dec with the incoming sand from the rainy season. At times La Paz can break nearly 300 meters, as perfect as it can get.

Fisherman’s, El Salvador Surf:
El Salvador’s version of Trestles this wave offers lefts and rights, can be fickle at times but well worth checking it out during your stay.

La Bucana, El Salvador Surfing:
One of the more defined left handers in El Salvador, this wave offers high performance surfing with barrels, airs and turns. La Bucana is not the longest waves in El Salvador but can hold up to double over head. This wave is super close to our hotel, so the travel time is minimal.

Zunzal, El Salvador Surfing:
Super friendly line up, long right hand point definitely for the average joe surfer. Zunzal has a wide open face, limited barrels and super long rides just a great wave to for all levels of surfing and all types of equipment from Long board, Short board and Retro Models.

El Zonte, El Salvador Surfing:
The super chill town of El Zonte has a good variety of surf from Beach Break, Right Point and Hallow Left Hander. The beach breaks work at all tides, point at low to med best and inside left hander we call baby Green Bush works at low tide just grinding off the sand bottom… One of the first spots to max out on an incoming swell, not good for anything over 6’

K59 / K61, El Salvador Surfing:
Super high performance wave, two right points lined up next to each other and sometimes runs all the way through on a perfect direction and swell size. K61 a bit more critical wave than K59 but offers barrel sections, fast racing lines for medium to advance surfers. K59 also a high performance wave but less critical than K61 but just as fun and more ride able for the intermediate surfer.

Mizata, El Salvador Surfing:
Mizata is another spot that we tend to hit when it is small everywhere else but it is the first spot to close out when there is swell. The area of Mizata is a bit of a hike but definitely the go to spot when the surf is in the 2-3’ range. This area has a good right hander outside the Rivermouth, Beach Breaks and a Slab for the Loco Surfers…
